Why We Started Zayaan Concepts

As a Robotics Engineer and father, I became increasingly aware of the materials we bring into our homes.

After watching our son struggle with eczma and researching indoor air quality, we began exploring healthier alternatives to conventional furniture.

What started as a personal project became Zayaan Concepts - a small Canadian workshop creating handcrafted furniture using non to low VOC finishes. sustainable materials, and timeless design principles.

Every piece is built one at a time and finished by hand.

What is Microcement?

Micro-cement is a thin, reinforced cement coating applied by hand in multiple layers.
Unlike traditional concrete, it is lightweight, flexible, and designed to be applied over a wood core - allowing for refined shapes, subtle texture, and durability without bulk.
The result is a smooth, stone-like finish with natural variation, depth, and character - never cold, never industrial.

Our Process

  • Wood Foundation

    Precision-built wood cores form the structure of every piece

  • Surface Prep

    The structure is secured, sanded, and primed to create a stable base for the micro-cement layers

  • Hand Applied Micro-cement

    Multiple reinforced layers are applied by hand for strength and texture

  • Sanded & Sealed

    Each surface is refined, sealed, and cured for durability and longevity

  • Complete & Prepared

    Once complete, the piece is prepared for delivery from our studio
